Fall 2011 French Recital

Thursday, December 1, the Language Department hosted the French Recital in Yates-Gill College Union. French students in the 300-level courses prepared oral presentations with the French Assistant, Clémentine Bastin. The Recital is an opportunity for our advanced students to exhibit their oral expression skills and the material they have been learning to a wider audience. This year students from FRE 111 Elementary French I, FRE 211, Intermediate French I, and CTI 205 La Doulce France comprised our audience and gave their support to our majors and minors in French.

Students in FRE 315 Introduction to French Studies prepared dramatic monologs on a fictive or historical character from the Second World War. We would like to feature Jillian Bush this semester for her excellent portrayal of Clara, a young Jewish woman who joins the Resistance as a way to avenge her husband's death.

Students in FRE 351 French Theatre of the 17th and 20th Centuries prepared a scene from Molière's Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme. With Clémentine, the four acted scene 10 from act 3 in which Cléonte and Lucille, Covielle et Nicole must work out a misunderstanding and be reconciled.

Congratulations to our performers for their good work this semester.
