Dr. Susan Myers Co-Presents Session at CCFLT 2016
Dr. Susan Myers, professor of French and Chair of Languages, co-presented a session entitled “More Than Small Talk: Assessing Speaking with ACTFL and CEFR Rubrics” at the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers Conference in Loveland, CO, February 20, 2016. The session began with an overview of ACTFL and CEFR proficiency guidelines, guidelines for developing rubrics, and examples of how to shape introductory and intermediate level class activities to increase language skills in preparation for ACTFL/CEFR speaking assessments. The session also addressed building appropriate speaking prompts building on the scaffolding of the classroom activities. The session ended with a demonstration of two common levels of spoken production in high school. Also included were useful resources for teachers needing authentic materials for language practice.
